5 Quick Ways to Reset Your Day

Ever have one of those days where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed & no matter what you do you just can’t seem to shake the feeling that the day is ruined? We’ve all been there. But instead of giving up on the day entirely, why not do your best to (symbolically) turn back the clock & give yourself a fresh start?

Here are 5 quick ways to reset, reframe & turn your day around:

1. Take a Shower

There’s nothing like washing the negativity off of your back. Whenever I need a reset, I step into the shower & do my best to leave my problems outside the curtain. If there’s anything I still need to work through, I hang my head & let the water pressure soothe my neck & scalp until all I’m focusing on is that sensation, not whatever I let ruin my day. Only when my brain has finally turned off do I step out of the shower & towel off, literally a refreshed woman!

2. Change your Clothes

Not enough time for a shower? Simply change your clothes! When I’m in a funk, I’m usually in clothing that looks (or smells, if I’m being honest) funky! There’s no quicker trick to lifting your spirits than putting on bright clothing that won’t allow you to blend into the shadows. So throw on your favorite colorful top with your favorite bottoms & throw your negative outlook into the laundry with this morning’s outfit!

3. Give

Ever heard of the “helper’s high?” There’s nothing like making someone else’s day that will turn your day around in return! Even the smallest gestures mean the world to people. Try also paying for the car behind you next time you’re in the drive thru. Or bring an extra scone to share with your coworker tomorrow! If you’re trying to stick to a tight budget, there are so many things you can do for others that don’t require any money at all! Something as easy as a genuine smile can go a long way - people just want to feel noticed & cared for.

4. Blast Your Favorite Song

You know that one song you can’t help but sing every time it comes on the radio? (For me it’s “Praying” by Kesha!) I call these singable songs. Whatever your singable song is, turn it on & turn it up! No matter how low you’re feeling, when the chorus comes around, I guarantee you won’t be able to resist going full karaoke. Get in your car, roll the windows down & go for a short drive with your song blasting. As the scenery rushes by & the wind whips through your hair, the sheer magic of being alive will have you forgetting your troubles by the time your drive is over!

5. Make a Gratitude List

The next time you’re in need of a reality check, grab a pen & make a list of everything you’re grateful for. & I mean EVERYTHING! Some of the things on my list today are:

  1. Clean air to breathe
  2. Waking up with Pepe (my pup) every morning
  3. Living in sunny, beautiful Hollywood
  4. Being able to afford healthy food
  5. A supportive mother
  6. Fresh flowers on my coffee table
  7. Steaming tea in my mug
  8. A library of books to keep me company
  9. My health
  10. Yoga classes

The possibilities are endless. As you write & write & write, you’ll likely realize that whatever it is that set your day on a bad course is -  in the grand scheme of life - not nearly as important as the people & things on your gratitude list.
